‘Recollections’ is beautifully produced in hardback with 29 new, original wood engravings by a local artist and 16 colour plates, most of which are previously unpublished. This book marks the welcome return of a classic that had become difficult and expensive to obtain. It is full of fascinating and often amusing anecdotes which give a vivid insight into the nineteenth century through the life of man who lived through much of it.

Revd E. B. Ellman was Curate and then Rector of Berwick in Sussex for 66 years. He lived in Glynde, Firle, Lewes and then Berwick. He studied in Oxford where he gained a First Class in mathematics. He is buried in the churchyard at Berwick.
